Road trip to Key West

Do’s & Don’ts

Do

Go camping at Leo’s Camp Ground. If you’re already heading down in RV or car the campsite is nice, clean and comes with friendly iguanas.  It’s run’s about $60+ a day for a tent site. Bathrooms were relatively clean (it is a campsite) but it worked for me.

Don’t

…Camp without a tent. Yes, this might seem obvious but it was a legitimate thought (or lack of thought), that we could camp sans a tent. The campsites are great and right next to the mangroves and water, clearly described on their website and pictures provided. Don’t be a hero or an idiot, bring a tent.

Do

Check out Fort Zachary Taylor Beach and Park.

Don’t

…Forget the sunscreen. I brought sunscreen but didn’t apply it before we started driving the Keys. The result, I came home with a very bruised and burned left arm (my driving arm).

Do

Get a mojito at The Southernmost House and enjoy the beautiful view.

Don’t

…Forget to tour the inside of the house and of course, don’t forget to walk a block or so down the street to the actual “Southernmost Point”.

Do

Go to Dry Tortugas National Park! Hop aboard the Yankee Freedom III and enjoy the 2-hour boat ride to a beautiful national park. Breakfast and lunch included.
